My LBS recommended that as I was insured it would be safer to follow that route. Basically my insurance has settled on the bike being irreparable. Unfortunately at our last renewal the limit on bikes was reduced to £1000, about half the value of a replacement so I am left in something of a dilemma. In my last conversation with them the person I spoke to told me they were authorised to send a cheque for £1000, unfortunately I don't have a wad of money in addition to throw at a new bike. Having talked it through with various people including the LBS the consensus seems to be that given the settlement figure keeping the frame might be a solution as most of the likely damage would be through the front wheel/forks area. So what do people think of this as an idea? Also if I do go down this route I would be looking at using the settlement to replace forks/headset, wheels, seatpost, bars and stem. I would be grateful for any recommendations.
