I begin my ride into work this morning and there is virtually 3 cars until I get to the city center. For some reason the road is practically all mine - never happens here during winter and when its dark. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasnt dreaming.
Only downside is something doesnt quite feel right with the bike but I carry on and head up a quiet Shirley Road. A silver car passes me nice and wide, but immediately right up his a*** is a black saloon that narrowly misses clipping my handlebars. I shout a vocal warning "OI! Steady on mate!!" Driver panics and hammers on the accelerater just as the silver car is braking (someone pulls out of a side road), she almost rear-ends the driver infront and only JUST managed to stop.
I think "RIGHT!! I'm getting that plate number and putting it on StopSMIDSY"
And shift into top gear... and nothing. Nothing happens, the gears dont change on the front derailler. WTF???!!
Said driver is now getting about 200ft away but traffic is bunching. So there I am doing what felt like 200rpm on the pedals, LOL!! Trying to catch up.
Said driver nearly rear ends silver car a second time as he has slowed to park and she isnt paying attention. She then swings out around the silver car nearly into oncoming traffic heads up some 20 feet and takes a right turn without indicating - which must have been quite disconcerting for the oncoming car that had to brake.
By the time I caught up I'd lost interest and was knackered.
This driver wasnt the wife of the old plonker that nearly had Crankarm was it?
Got into work and had a look at the bike in the light. Not good, shifter is doing nothing so I decided to head off to The Hub and ask the guy in there if he could have a play. I also had a bit of a wobbly bracket, this he confirmed so I'm glad I didnt imagine that.
Thing is I'm sure the silly bleep who jammed their bike in next to mine on friday might have knocked my derailler. Already had someone damage the rim slightly (said about it on 'radar the other week) when someone stood on the valve and gave me a flatty.
The guy in The Hub only charged me a tenner for setting it right. I thought that was good enough to mention on here.
Oh and I found a cheap £30 waterproof pannier bag, so I can now mount the Redeye. :?:
