Or a bike.
I actually caught a programme about tanks a couple of days ago, and followed the development through to today.
Was very interesting. This will be the next development on the chobham armour.
I worked with a couple of ex. squaddies who said there was other armour that was fitted (on top of chobham), but it was always removed once the tank came back (ex. service men in the late 90's) - very secret stuff. Chobham was brittish developed.
The problem they will have is most of the modern tanks are powered by a gas turbine = jet engine - and run out of fuel in 4 hours (the Yank tanks are). Diesels last much longer - and that's what us Brits use and will last 24 hours or so. And also, they can create extra smoke shields by putting crap in the exhaust, as well as the turret mounted smoke stuff.
The other fact was in WWII, our tanks weren't great - couldn't make enough, so ended up buying US tanks as they switched their car production to tanks. We have been leading development in tanks now - safety, and comfort to tank crew means better performance. An uncomfy tanks

means the crew are knackered.
So, here stops my lesson. PS the angry locals know they need to attack fuel supply for the US tanks !!!
My only issue with these new panels, how the hell are they going to hide the output of a gas turbine or massive diesel engine exhaust heat trace ?
