iPad autocorrect

Does anyone know how to change some of the words in the autocorrect used when typing on an iPad? The one that bugs me the most is me typing us which it sometimes.... Don't know why it didn't that time, changes to U.S., and other times it's happy to convert a word that has one wrong letter into a random completely made up word... In that situation I'd rather it left it with the one incorrect letter.

Or is it one of those things you can't modify other than to switch it off entirely?

Samsung is just the same..if you cant spell its a bit of a pain..

spell checker on my laptop is brilliant and what i use for business corespondance.."no idea how to spell coraspondence" as this samsung throws up 3 spellings lol..

I pretty rapidly turned off autocorrect in my iPad Settings - if I hadn't I would have got so frustated I would have hurled the thing across the room I think.....

As I understand it (as a non-Apple user) the dictionary isn't editable. There are some workarounds, though. Details here.
