The biggest irony is how, since privatisation, my utilities bills have gone on an upwards spiral. Thank goodness I have all this choice about who I pay these vast sums to. I'd hate to think that any profits would be steered back towards the greater good. This way I'm able to select the bunch with the creepiest, most money grabbing, execs going. Helps me to sleep soundly at night.

Not quite sure what you are getting at here?

You can't deny that privisation has reduced both gas and electricity bills. The ability to switch suppliers has saved me £000's over the years. You can't blame them for the massive international increase in oil and gas prices which had a knock affect on our energy costs.

Actually the way wholesale electricity prices work is probably one of the best examples of market forces finding the best price for a commodity. It's fascinating stuff.

As for water rates, certainly in the NW anyway there is a massive amount of work inplace to replace aging pipes and sewers. We are paying for years of underinvestment.
