Is it really as bad as all that?

I actually find reading this forum in particular quite depressing. Most of the posts are recounting some horror story. It actually makes me lose my love for cycling occasionally.

Just get out there, enjoy it, take it easy, concentrate on your own riding and try to ignore the idiocy and madness that is all around..!

As long as you keep your eyes open and don't treat your daily commute as some wacky competition, you should be fine. Just think safety instead of trying to beat your personal best. If you commute every day, it's highly likely for you to encounter all sorts of idiots on the roads - try to stay away from them, that should make things easier.

Have you already been over the route?
Good call - I'm going to have a go over the weekend on my existing bike (can't put it on the train in the week).

Mind you, on reflection and it has been observed before here, the peds who just don't look are a huge hazard…
