I've read this several times. He seems to have quite a few of the attributes, such as charm, promiscuity, inability to maintain long term relationships, risk-taking, callousness, cunning and deceit. I'm not totally sure though, because he was also reliable and not willing to betray his country even when it was in his best interest. Sean Connery seems most like a psychopath, but George Lazenby and Roger Moore, less so. I've also read that some reasons women like him is because he has good manners, never complains and never carps about other people.

Just shoots, stabs, strangles or otherwise kills them!

A psychopath uses other people with complete disregard to their feelings or needs. The violence is not present in all of them, although probably more common in psychopaths than the general population.

To answer the question, yes he is a psychopath and a violent one at that. I'm glad he's on our side, not 'theirs'.

He's a hard man all right, but not quite a psychopath! I watched Goldfinger again a couple of weeks ago and... (is it worth making this a SPOILER after all these years? Okay then! ;))

Bond was visibly upset when he came round and discovered Jill Masterton's dead body (painted gold), and also later when her sister Tilly Masterton was killed by OddJob. A psychopath wouldn't have been affected by their deaths.

I read the original James Bond books when I was at school and although I had no understanding of what a psychopath was at that time, I have little doubt now, that Ian flemming's James Bond character was one.

I wouldn't have said Batman was a psychopath. He's a do-gooder for a start. He spends his personal fortune on fighting crime. He's not promiscuous, nor deceitful (except in disguising his identity), manipulative or anything. He refuses to use lethal force even in self defence.

You havent read the 30s comics then? He breaks necks, picks on minority groups and is hell bent for his vengence. He also has several affairs through the many comics series.... I dont think you have to kill to be a psycho (some psychologists dont think pyschosis has anything to do with serial killers for instance)

I didn't know Batman got up to that sort of malarky. He seems to have mellowed over the years.

I'm coming to the conclusion that James Bond is more a sociopath than a psychopath. Psychopaths seem to have a bit missing from their brain that makes them unemployable because they don't have much self control, apart from making them indulge in risky behaviour and lacking empathy. JB can keep it together. Also, psychos are said to have superficial charm, where as JB's charm seems real enough.

Any examples of any other undiagnosed literary psychopaths? How about Stringer Bell from The Wire?

I recently read the first of the bond books, and would not say that bond is a psychopath. He is taunted for being 'haunted by all the men he has killed', and he feels guilt for seducing err, one of the female characters. I cant remember her name, but bond is described as feeling the guilt of his behaviour welling up, and then surpressing it. Bond does exhibit a sadistic side to his nature, but I dont think this is psychopathic.
Most people are capable of psychopathic behaviour given the right social environment, look at the SS during the WW2.

Don't know so much a psychopath as a leering pervert...........I watched the Roger Moore bond films last week on telly, and got the impression that he (Bond (or Moore)) was a right sleazebag.
