If I go to the local chippy, I just ask for fish 'n' chips... if you say it that way, it doesn't matter what it is, and you save the vendor the potential embarrassment of asking you (in heavily Turkish-accented English) if you want 'cot' or 'hattock', to which you have to reply 'you what, mate? then turn to your drunken friend and say "can't understand a f'kin word, mate, oy, stop pi$$ing on the floor, Gervaise, I dunno, used to be easier when The Jones's owned this shop, yeah, they were Welsh, but you could bl00dy understand 'em. Nah, yer alright mate, fish, just fish, give us wotevva fish you got on the go".
