My daughter's off to places like Thailand, Cambodia and Laos for a month, and she asked me to look into call charges. Her provider - EE - charges £1.50/min in Thailand, eg. Is there a cheap way to do it, with or without buying a sim when she gets to a new country?

Skype instead?

My sister has been getting regular updates from my niece over Skype from all around that area and Australia for the past year.

WiFi can be a bit sketchy for stuff like Skype. I've had plenty of occasions where it drops out or I can hear UK but they can't hear me.. I would definitely use a local SIM if you're in a country for a while and want to make a few calls and use data

Used whatapp on a couple of occasions on hotel WiFi to make calls and it's been very clear

Will the handset work where she's intending on going?
