Lots of shoes take both cleats, then you need to change the pedals

Looks like you can go the other way though http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-cleat-adaptor-spd-spd-r/rp-prod28896

... ish

There are plates that allow an SPD-L shoe to mount SPD cleats

However I don't know of one the other way round.

It may be worth inquiring about the Shimano Sm-SH85 SPD-SL / SPD adaptor

These are designed to fit the plate using the three hole fitting and then the SPD cleat to the plate.

I do not know if you can fit the cleat to the three holes and use the two holes of he SPD fitting to attach the plate to the shoe

I have some SPD shoes that look like trainers . My SPD-SL look like shiny road shoes .
Sometimes I just want to go for a wonder on my good bike and don't want to change what I am wearing so a trainer looking spd-sl would be nice .
I'll just get a pair of over shoes and tuck my jeans into them if there isn't a solution .

I don't think there is a true trainer spd sl. There is a Shimano shoe that takes both which is more casual looking I spose

It doesn't take very long to change pedals.
and even less time to scratch your cranks
