Just sat here waiting for my kids to finish Karate so browsing the web. I saw a cyclist driving to the place where my kids take Karate, and as I look up, I've seen 5 cyclists go by -perhaps one was a roadie, but definitely the others were commuting. This is unheard of -I've never seen that many before while I've been waiting! Many people -not all in fairness, and I bet it's the same in the UK - over here require a car to drive down their driveway (and I'm not talking about a big long driveway either) or even to cross the road. In fact I'd bet they'd use a car to drive from their kitchen to their car if they could.

What with "gas" (that's petrol for us British) reaching unheard of heights here ($4 a gallon, that's about 2 pound 92 for a UK gallon, yeah, don't laugh even though many Americans are in a state of gasoline shock at the moment and think it's scandalous) I think more people will actually consider bicycles, or even smaller vehicles.

Anyway, great to see.

HOLY COW -just saw another! Really, honestly, this is weirdly disturbing now.

Edit: and yet another....... That's it, I must be hallucinating.

It's kinda-sorta catching on here, more people with more disposable income (in the main) and many who are starting to realise that while gym memberships are OK, if you buy a bike it gets you fitter and gets you where you need to go.
According to t'internet, 1 US gal = 3.785l and the current exchange rate is about $1.65 to the pound. In the Peterborough area, diesel is about £1.45 per litre, which equates to about $9 per gal (US) for diesel, how does that compare? Is diesel less or more than gasoline? I don't think it would matter to some people if they had to re-mortage their house to fill their tank, they'd do it rather than walk or cycle
