I was due to pick up my road hybrid bike this morning, alas it has been stolen from the seller overnight (apparently they left it in their porch after cleaning it).

Soooo....I am looking for a bike, but I am on a small budget to begin with. My reasons for getting a bike is so that I can lose weight. I am only 5'6, but overweight hence the health scare. I plan to use my bike for leisure (and possibly to my casual work, as I have too much kit to get to my full time job due to different sites).

I was looking at a road hybrid, but only really want to spend a maximum of £250-300....until I have lost loads of weight and can review bikes then. So I thought I would come to the experts. What do you think I should get?

I live on the south downs, so have potential to cycle on most tracks in that area, but I really don't want a heavy mountain bike with full suspension like by current bike. I absolutely hate it!!!

Cheers for that - coincidentally I looked at the 2013 subway in halfords today and didn't think much of the build quality, poor welding etc. Perhaps it was just the display one. I didn't see a 2011/2012 on show unfortunately.

Worth bearing in mind though
