Cycling in thick fog.

Got up this morning to a fairly thick fog which cleared about a mile into the commute. A mile away from work, it came down like a thick blanket within seconds and I couldn't see beyond a few feet. I must admit that I did think about riding on the pavement.

I felt a tad nervous hearing the cars coming as I couldn't see their headlights until they were virtually on top of me. Fair play, all the drivers slowed right down and gave me loads of room. I did have a few missed heart beats with cars waiting to turn right across my path, in case they didn't see me.

Still, I got here in one piece.

It was a fun morning, wasn't it

Blackburn Mars4.0 on the back, and a Cree equipped torch on the front probably helped my visibility somewhat.

Wonderful spring morning here (also S manchester) probably the best days ride in all year. Warm enough for shorts and Tshirt without being too hot either. Really good.

Completely agree though that fog is very scary. I've also done the glasses thing and realised visability isn't that bad!

We only had light fog/ haze this morning but I can remember the last time we had thick fog, I though visibility was down to a few metre and I was amazed with some of the driving. Got home and wiped my glasses, it wasn't that bad ;)

I had that here this morning - visibility seemed about 100m when I left but detiriated (sp?) to about 20m at several points. I found wiping my glasses with the thumb of my gloves helped a bit - but sometimes it just smeers it about and makes things worse.

Ive rode in thick fog and your better turning the lights off as they only reflect off the fog. I was a country lane once and it was that bad I stopped and I felt 'trapped' - you've got to experience it to realise it !

You feel your going to ride into something. especuially when you can just about make out you hand in front of you !

Strange cos I had dark lens glasses on this morning and noted no problems at all. Must be the anti-fogging?? It was very cold so maybe that's the reason too.

Bad here too
I had to rush back from work last night so was driving.

Good job too because all my lights are at work and i wouldn't have taken them home on the bike.

I have put some on now though just in case

Lovely here in Manchester - was back in the shorts and SS Jersey (with an LS thermal top underneath though :headshake:). Looking nice for the ride home too. Yay!

-2C when I left home, 0C when I got to work. There was a light mist as I came in but after 30 minutes at my desk visibility out the window was down to 10 yards or so.
