It's so much better commuting by bike when you don't have to.

When I didn't drive I had to commute by bicycle every day, and after a while on occasion I would really resent it, especially on days with horrible weather. Today would have been one of those days, but I had the choice, car or bike and I chose bike.

I have never resented having to commute on the bike in foul weather.
In fact I resent NOT having to commute on the bike in foul weather.

I have a car on the drive.

I resent having to drive to work in any weather - I can count on one hand the number of times I have driven in the last year, and it's usually because I have a non-work (hospital) 'appointment' to attend.

I have the same thing out here. I can get door to door service in the shared company car or ride the bike. I choose the bike and people think I,m crazy.'!!!!!'!!!!!!!!!'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a choice:
Take the car over 16 speed bumps and through three sets of traffic lights arriving at work (1.4 miles away)
in 10-12 minutes.
Or
Take the road-bike bike through numerous foot-paths and short-cuts around my gaff and get to work
in 8 minutes. (Skinny wheels, always going round obstacles).
Or
Take the mountain bike through numerous foot-paths and short-cuts around my gaff and get to work
in 6 minutes. (Fat wheels and a rider that's yet to crash on the "beast" at thetford ;)).

Today was the first time I didn't cycle to work since 29 Feb this year.

This and the previous occasion were because of dentist appointments.

I got the tram into work. Would have much preferred to take the bike, but the dentist doesn't have anywhere safe (IMO) to leave my bike.

I have never driven to work, as it is so impractical.
  • 12 mile direct route
  • Through London rush hour
  • have to pay congestion charge
  • parking space at work is around £8,000 a year.
  • parking around work is also bloody expensive (around £40 a day)

To be fair to the OP there are two or three times a year when I wish I had access to my car. These are usually on days when i'm coming down with a cold and or the wind is in
my face. But that yearning don't last long.

I used to like to get a lift to work now and again from Mr6, but he took me in the car yesterday and I kept moaning about how much quicker it would've been by bike!
And - it meant I had to ring him to come back for me because I didn't want to walk home afterwards!
I always want to cycle.
