It's time for a new bike

My Specialised hybrid is getting towards the end of it's life Mrs BC has a similar machine and it's time to change.

We do fairly shourt tours in East Anglia (20 - 50 miles) and like to a bit of light off road stuff.

Our budget is around £5 - 600 each. Any suggestions???

Depending on how light your off roading is, and how much you liked your last Spesh, the Sirrus is consistently well reviewed, within your budget, and I know a few people that own them and like them a lot.

I think the heavier duty Hybrid from their range is the Globe, but I don't know a lot about those.

I have a Spesh Globe sport, which is near the bottom of the Globe range, approx £300 I use it for commuting on the TPT from Hornsea to Hull & i've done the TPT & C2C routes on it. It's ok for rough tracks & mild off road & nothing has broke yet & I'm quite hefty at 17st

Er, how can you tell when it's 'getting near the end of its life'? Wrinkles? Memory lapses? Incontinence? Bikes last for ever don't they?

Get two new bikes and get the old ones fixed up - then you'll have two each - you can never have enough bikes.

How old or knackered are they - new transmission / wheels / tyres and it will be sorted

off-road is not a good idea with a sirrus, I'd say (I have one).
Mine now has 23mm tyres to get some extra speed from it, but it's by no means a slouch on the road. They go pretty fast when you put your foot down.

Crock - do you mean a triple front rather than a double - so 27 not 18 gears - yes it is do-able

If just 3 on the back, then possibly - lots of spacers but I don't see the point, and the rear mech limit screws probably won't stop it over shifting !

The Sirrus will take 23mm tyres no problem (don't go 20 - even harsh for roadies). New bars - yes - but depends upon whether you can keep levers and shifters - how about bar ends - loads of types available.

I'm running a MTB on 1.2" slicks now for commuting - nice and quick, but still 3 mins slower on the commute than the road bikes (although 2 mins quicker than the heavy 1.5" semi-slicks)

It's all possible within reason !

That's weird, when I put my foot down on my bike I tend to slow down and then stop!!
