Well, didn't know if there were any legal implications really.

A fair enough worry, but I think if you're presenting the facts, that's ok.

If you were just repeating hearsay, that might be different.

Quick update, the CC company are investigating. No guarantee of a refund as yet but I'm pleasantly surprised they're taking it so seriously for such a small amount of cash

I get extremely annoyed when treated like this, and as a point of principle would take it as far as I could (but then I am very sad).

How about firing off this letter to see what happens.

What's the position with Debit Card purchases - didn't check out a spare part company and basically was done for £24 - am under the impression that Debit Cards don't fall under the consumer credit legislation?
Can someone enlighten me?

Google for debit card refunds. You'll find lots of authoritative advice.

Result!
After posting I actually called my bank (LTSB) and the helpful Scottish lady referred me to their Debit Card Dispute line. A five minute call produced the assurance that the amount would be refunded in a few days.

Thanks all, filled out a supplied form from the CC company, and got a letter through today to let me know that the amount had been credited back to my account ^_^
Apparently the vendor has 90 days to challenge the decision, in which case the CC company will contact me, but looks as if we're home and dry.

Thanks again for all the advice, as I say, hardly a financial crisis but it was the principle of the thing...
