Hello all Happy new year,

I got in my car/banger for the first time this year in order to take my daughter home,Broom broom started lovely went to pull away and BANG tried to start again to be greeted by a very fast spinning sound, Yep you guessed it cam belts gone and I'd guess from the very loud bang bent just about everything there is to bend ! Thank god I still have my bike,

A car is not an essential you know, once you get used to not having one, you soon find you don't really want one. I sold my last car in 1994 and really don't want to buy another one...

I'm lucky really as I don't need to use the car very much ,certainly not in winter anyway ( a fair bit of camping in the summer). I have a small motorcycle which I use for anything out of cycling distance, and the push bikes for anything in cycling distance including commuting to work.The car is kept really to cart the misses around as she is lightly disabled after a serious motorcycle accident some years ago.I never had a car till fairly recently so won't really miss it much.

As long as I don't have to use the dreaded and expensive public transport system I'm O.k.
