I have just watched on tv a recording.
And was amazed at, James Cracknell Cycle 200 Miles then 300miles .
Then run 3 x Marathons In 22hours . With A badly bruised foot . The worst part was running across Death Valley . In temperatures above 126 degrees. It took Its toll . As he could only walk with the aid of walking sticks . And gradually he started to jog to complete . His backup team were fantastic . First class medical team monitored him all the time also provided him with good hydration drinks / carbs etc. At the end of the run up a very steep Incline he was exhausted . And they lifted him Into an Inflatable Ice bath
Immersing him for ten minuites / To ease the muscles and to stop any tears or damage to the muscle fibres . also to stop any build up of lactic acid . I believe he lost 35 kliograms . Throughout all this and was exhausted . He then went on to cycle route 66. His backup team and vehicle were to rendezvous with him further along the Highway .
And then Disaster . He was hit . Clipped by a truckers mirror . And taken to hospital with dangerous head wounds . Bleeding to the brain . Concussion and Amnesia . Fortunately with a miracle recovery with all the medical treatment and rehabillatation .
He is well enought to carry on competative sports .
But what a truly brave couragous person. " True grit " With A never say die attitude .
A legend and a Hero .

I certainly admire Cracknell on many levels. It was a good program too. The sheer preparation and monitoring that goes on in the super-endurance sports like this is breath taking. They monitor your urine, sweat, weight, breath...

It was funny when he left his hill trainer knackered after about 30 miles uphill.

What channel and program name? It sounds interesting and extreme (he never seems to be involved in lets go for a wee walk to the shops ... I think I would go mad if I was married to him).

A bit of a hero, but then again, I wasn't so impressed with some of the choices he made when racing to the south pole - quite frankly, he put the rest of his team in danger a couple of times, but that doesn't stop me saying he is a remarkable athlete who deserves respect

This was part of a trilogy of feats.

Started with the Marathon des Sables multi day runs across the Sahara, then Death Valley and this week whatever he did after he recovered (I believe).

DISCOVERY Thursday 7th @2100 & repeated Sunday 10th @1900
Cold is most definitely an understatement! Olympic giant James Cracknell takes on the Yukon Arctic Ultra – 430 arduous miles in minus 50 degrees, and all on a bike! Only one person has ever finished this ultra challenge on a bike. Can James equal his achievement?

Interestingly enough, being in that head-injury club, I have been in contact with James Cracknell relating to the similarities in our brain injuries. Some of the 'co-incidences' in our immediate follow-up scenarios are almost uncanny. He'll write, ' I bet this didn't happen to you...' and relates something that happened exactly the way it happened to me so I return the favour and it turns out the same thing DID happen to him! It's weird. I'm about six months a'head' (sorry) of him in the timing of the head-floor interface incident.

He did make some c*ckups in the arctic.. nearly had pulmonary endima (sp?) as well didnt he?

There was some pillock on The Sun website slagging him off last week. BIG MISTAKE! People obviously respect the guy as every message left on the story was a) positive in a "come on James, we know you can do it!" kinda way, and b) having a rightful pop at dinlow who was cheaky.:becool:

+1,

It was pretty extreme - his trainer having to give up supporting him on the cycling section was class. It showed just how driven Cracknell was in those conditions.
