Probably not that well known in Cycle Chat land apart from a few of us Heavy Metal aficionados.

He was the bassist on what is imvho, one of the greatest Rock albums of all time, Rainbow's 'Rainbow Rising'.
He was also a long time mainstay in the completely brilliant Dio.

I spotted the announcement of his death earlier today, including some reports that his death was due to being mauled by a "rabid black bear"

He's notable for probably being the only famous person from Newtonmore that isnae famous due to playing shinty or climbing mountains. RIP Jimmy.
