Most of the routes I see are West coast routes, any reason for this or are there also decent routes down the east coast of Scotland?

Have family in Perth and that would be a nice stop but there may be reasons why the east coast is avoided so looking for any views or opinions.

I chose an easterly route (but not the coast)- because it makes it easier to avoid main roads. Going southbound I was dreading the climb up from Inverness to Aviemore, but it turned out be such gentle affair... Inverness to Pitlochry on the NCN was a delight (although to be fair that was our best weather days of the whole trip).
We avoided Perth though.... from Pitlochry we took the A822 through Crieff to Dunblane & Sterling, before threading an intricate route past Cumbernauld down to Lanark and then joining the NCN74.
