From tomorrow BBC 6 are broadcasting 15-minute segments of Peely's old progs... only 15-min segments, but if you're at home it'll be great to hear his mellifluous tones back on the airways. I've never bothered with Radio 6 before, but it looks like there might be some interesting stuff on there - later on there's Bob Harris, Ronnie Wood, and Brian Eno.

I could listen to John peel all night, as long as he didn't play any music.

No radio DJ has ever come close to Peel for quality of music, dulcet tone of voice and inspiration to musicians the world over.

I must have sent him 30+ CD demos over his last few years, and he was responsible for me losing sleep on many an occassion when i had an early shift. Sadly missed, even now.

Waiting ages for old DJs to be on the airwaves and 2 come along within a few days. Radio 2 Christmas day had 2 hrs of the much missed Kenny Everett.

Everett, again, no modern DJ has a patch on him. You've now got the likes of Moyles who exist to be annoying and offensive and have no charm whatsoever

Back in the day I was a member of a promising local band and the zenith of our career was getting invited to record a Peel session. I remember the day he phoned up to ask us if we would do it. It was like we would be doing him a favour. A nice guy.

Tuned into that while driving at very low speeds in the dark, along frozen, deserted roads, on our way to Loch Tay for Christmas. It was magic.

In a dusty old box somewhere I've still got a couple of cassette tapes of Peely's Festive 50 from 1978

P.S. On 6 Music at 01:00 tonight/ Friday morning they've got The John Bonham Story with Dave Grohl
