Johnny Helms. RIP.

Announced in Cycling this morning. Johnny Helms, the resident cartoonist since 1947 passed away over the weekend. Funeral tomorrow in Widnes.

Always amusing, poking fun at cyclists and their antics, he will be sadly missed.

Bought the magazine today and read that, very sad.

I knew Johnny Helms and his family since childhood, as he was a member of our club. He used to tease me mercilessly as a child & once took me along when he was giving a food musette to Albert Crimes on an end to end ride. I thought it was so exciting being out on the bike at 3am.
He was a skilled after-dinner speaker and of course expert cartoonist and will be sadly missed.

I think, but am not SURE, he was in the Prescot Eagle and a nice bloke...and was acually did doodles when I seen him, too...and I thought he's obviously, through his observances of cyclists life making notes...just a nice situ.

Was impressed to see him - as he was someone I'd never ever expect to meet..real nice to have 'met' him even though I didn't speak with him.
