I was planning to attend an event at which the above mentioned is to be a guest speaker, has anyone attended any of his talks?

In all seriousness, I hadn't heard of him. Just looked him up... what he's done is impressive, and he appears to write well too. I'd go along if I were you.

Not got time to read it fully, but... I guess he sort of apologizes at the top for whatever it is he said

I would listen to what he had to say - but not if he was being paid for it. Afterall, he did it for the love not the money.
