That's not really fair though is it?

I may not be comfortable around large vehicles because of lorry blind spots and whether the driver is concentrating or whether he/she gives a toss or makes a mistake or whatever. For this reason I no longer use the Tower Gateway - Southwark Bridge Route apart from odd occasions.I even remember when one of the brothers got done by a lorry at Southwark Bridge a week after I fell off there.

Plus the fact that motorcyclists were using the cycle lane.No problem with that but when some of them didn't seem to give a toss I got fed up with it.

Christ there is even a clip on utube of a lorry with a car stuck to the front.

I think if you read it again that it is fair and that you agree with me and Tynan (I think we were in agreement) – I am not comfortable with artics – I see them as a potential hazard and I am wary of them – but it should not disqualify me or anyone else from being on the road. I regularly see people taking what I would classify as liberties with artics – I am not sure if they are comfortable, reckless or just plain ignorant.

Your approach is a commonsense one - you have chosen routes that you consider to be safer – The term “risk assessment” is much maligned but we all do it – is it going to rain? Will I need my waterproofs? Is this the safest route? If I am cycling anywhere I will consider the risk of the roads that I am going to use and adjust my route accordingly – If I am on tour I will often sit for a few minutes and assess the road I am going to use – Layout (there are roads in Scandinavia that I will not use), How long am I going to be on that road? What is the overall road width? Is there a decent shoulder and sometimes will go to the extremes of a short HGVcount
