Dead jealous mate!

I couldnt stretch the budget at the time from a B17 special, will eventually get some bar tape when the current stuff wears out. Let us know how long it takes to beak in.

You might be surprised. With a bit of luck it may be fine from day one. Brooks have been making saddles for many many years and they do know the shape of the human bum. IMHO the "breaking in" bit is really a slow improvement over time, if it doesn't fit you at all then you've got the wrong type [eg don't expect a fully sprung town bike saddle to "break in" to suit a racer]. The difference with a brooks is that if it's a bit iffy at first then it WILL adapt to suit in a way that others don't.

I think I got the right one. My bars a slightly lower than my seat. I'm not a "racer" but I sometimes adapt quite aggressive positions.

I bought a little used Brooks B17 from a CC member at the end of March. First couple of times out I was thinking maybe I had made a mistake. Then bit by bit things improved. Now I hardly even notice the saddle, which is how it should be. I am happy enough to be doing a long ride on it at the end of the month.

You doing anything to protect it in the rain. I've got some mudgaurds on order and will proofide the bottom. It never gets stored outside in the rain, even while I'm at work.
Will this be enough?

I have Proofided it top and bottom. I have mudguards which I leave on winter and summer. I have an elasticated saddle cover in my bag in case I need it. Like you, my bike lives indoors and is rarely left outdoors when not being ridden. You can always fold up a small carrier bag and keep it in your pocket in case you want to cover the saddle if you get caught in the rain.

My B17 was comfortable from day 1 and has only become more comfortable.

I'm currently experimenting with one of the Spa cycles copies for my winter bike and it feels as if it's made from cast iron. I hope it softens up very soon.

yeah that's roughly how long it takes for the nerves in your arse to die.

I gave up using my Brooks after 27,000 miles it was harder than nails out of the box and it hurt like hell, but I carried as I knew some day it would be comfortable, but it never was.
I sometimes wonder if I have the wrong arse for cycling.

I assume I have a Brooks-template arse. All mine have been comfortable out of the box.I find any discomfort I experience varies with which shorts ( they all have different shape/thickness pads) I wear.

I am using a B17 that I have had for 40 years and I wouldn't swap it for anything. I don't remember having to break it in when new and I don't think I have ever suffered from a BSA either.

I've been using a dustbin liner in the underside and works quite well.

The Team Pro is the hardest to break in in my experience but once you do it's a really great saddle. I nearly gave up on it but I'm so glad that I gave it another chance on a different bike. The Team Pro and my Swallow are my favourites on the other hand, my B17 Champion dropped to 4th place in my list of fav saddles ^_^ I think I need to get a new bike for it, maybe a town bike as I think the saddle is a little to wide for me.
