Glad to hear all are OK. And that, hopefully, the ambulance chasers can be kept at arms length.

I've just driven down Westmoreland Road in Bromley, and just by the traffic lights at the Park Langley end there's a black Fiat 500, on the pavement, on its roof. Thing is, I'm not that worried about the occupants (as long as they were belted), partly as there two police cars and an ambulance in attendance and the Dibbles look relaxed, but also because there is no deformity evident whatsoever in the Fiat's roof pillars.

That little car must be built like a tank. Not so sure about the Caterham stopped in front of it, though.

Yes cars can be repaired and the most important thing is that the occupants are ok but that doesn't mean that we don't like our cars. After all, one could say the same about our bikes. How many times many of you say : " but is the bike alright?" after a fall. So let's be fair, I have a new car ( new last March) and wouldn't be happy if it was written off by some idiot who doesn't respect the rules on the road.
Yes, the most important thing are the passengers but cars do matter too, especially when it is new and shiny and you spent a lot of money and worked hard to be able to buy it.

Good luck, a woman crashed into me (I was driving my wife's MX5) 2 years ago, she was on the wrong side of the road, talking to and facing her kids, who were in the back seat. She drove straight into me whilst facing backwards! She was very apologetic...............then told her insurers that the accident was my fault.

I had one last year where I was parked in a car park, keys out of the ignition, when a woman reversed into me. You guessed, she claimed it was my fault.

Thanks all for your thoughts, things are looking a bit brighter this morning- or is it just the sunshine?
There are no hire cars available until Monday afternoon so bit stranded but family have all offered to help.
Fully anticipate the premium hike and lack of funds for a new car but the bank of mum and dad have already told me to speak to them if I get stuck financially.

The car was 14 years old with 115k on it but it was still my pride and joy, cleaned regular, used daily, part of the family, had her for 4.5 years so will be sad to see her go- fortunately my 9 years no claims discount was protected.

The only thing keeping me sane is that I couldn't have anticipated it, I wasn't being silly/ going quickly/ taking a risk, it was just someone else's split second poor decision.
