Several times the past couple of weeks I’ve used the cycle path that runs along the beach instead of the road like normal, there have been road works & temporary lights causing huge tailbacks so figured the path would for once be quicker (it is prettier though)
Part of this path has two 'red zones' surface painted red & clearly signed where cyclists have to dismount, there are kiosks, public toilets & direct beach access so obviously an area prone to families meandering..Ok not likely at 7.30 am, but the point is it is still sign posted "Cyclists Dismount" I always follow these sorts of signs... I do not want to be the type of cyclist that gets good cyclists a bad name.
Every day I have encountered the same TWIT on some point of my commute- I would use stronger words but this is a public forum!
The first day I pulled onto the cycle path I could see him approaching, prob 40/50 yards away, I wasn't racing or speeding, just a woman riding her bike to work, about 200 yards later - at the first red zone I dismounted & walked the 40 odd feet, he zoomed past me, with less than an inch to spare, as the path is at least 10 feet wide I felt this totally unnecessary. Once past the red zone I remounted, I could see him in the distance & watched him go straight through the next red zone, even though there where pedestrians on the path that he approached from behind without a warning, one was clearly very startled & visibly saw her jump!
The next day, I encountered him on the 2[sup]nd[/sup] red zone, he again zoomed past, again too close for comfort, The third time was a couple of days later, I was at the footbridge that crosses back into town, again clearly signed Cyclist Dismount, again he ignored the sign, the bridge is just wide enough for two bikes to pass with maybe a few mm’s between handlebars – He tried to ride past me, didn’t even Ping his bell or say excuse me, he clipped my bar ends, did a wobble but he managed to recover from then rode off, causing a lady approaching to flatten herself into the wall!
Then I didn’t see him for several days, our next encounter was at traffic lights a few miles further down the route than before, I was waiting at traffic lights, I was at the front of the queue & in Primary, he shot past the queuing traffic on the outside & nearly sideswiped a car coming from the road on the right. Much beeping & shouting from the driver, the cyclist responded with language that was far from elegant.

Today I took the car, Fridays I collect my dirty clothes & leave fresh stuff for the following week.
Imagine my amusement when driving past the footbridge, and he shot straight out without looking & into my path... I slammed on the brakes, whilst hitting the horn, at which point he looked over his shoulder, gave me the V sign... Then went straight over his handlebars as he hit the pothole!!
I got out, Twit that he is; I still wanted to make sure he was ok... I got a barrage of abuse, several other folk appeared, he was still swearing at me, while trying to pick his VERY mangled, probably irreparable carbon bike up...
What a terrible terrible shame.... I very nearly cried, I really like Bianchi’s!

that is karma - well done you for checking he was alright, very civil of you. i'd definitely have been inclined to point out the fact that you'd been subject to his cycling style and ignorance of signs etc especially after he started giving out abuse but that's just me

Well done funnymummy, I trust the twit was alright? Did you say anything to him along the lines of, why are you acting like a to**er. it would of been interesting to hear his answer.

Ha! Serves him right. If he's in such a hurry, he should be on the road.

By the way, Cyclist Dismount signs aren't legally binding I think, but advisory (blue background, rectangular). I see why you dismount to project a good image, but I think I'd be inclined to simply ride very carefully (IE, not like the berk), especially if it was very quiet - if it was very busy, then fair enough, but I'd avoid the path in that case.

Wouldn't it be funny if it was someone on here, we could have a right go!;)

Around these parts, I would have been tempted to shout "get it right up ye" before driving off laughing.

Karma is the business.

Still, good on you for being good enough to remember that he may a tool, but at least you showed your humanity.

Aw Thnaks for your kind words...
I had mentaly rehaersed lines i would say to him if given the chance, had even played through the 'what if he gets aggresive scenario'...Not that would bother me, I let people hit me for fun ;)
But to have him sprawl flat out in front of me like that was probably the most poetic form of justice, and of course FM in a CMax looks a lot different to FM on a Spesh, so he had no idea it was I, he had been harrasing on the path.
He did try to use the "She drove right at me" line, but there were enough witness's to put a stop to that bull-crap!
I did inform the police of what had happened, although could give no factual details of him as when i asked his name etc was told to "Go forth" but then he said i'd be hearing from his solicitors, but not too bothered by that, as i'm pretty sure he'd have to have police report or such before he could even try to make a claim, and the witness's all more then happily volunteered their names, numbers & address's
.

The signs in question are the Blue advisory kind, and I admit there are times/places I ignore them..If I can see the path is totaly clear, no-one within olympic sprinting distance of them, when dismounting seems like a totaly ridiculous thing to do etc.. i think it's called common sense LOL!

And yes - wouldn't it be hilarious if the twit was on here & made a ranting post about some "Tart in a flash car" as I recall was one of the names he called me at the time - But I am sure none of the fantastic folk on the forum would ever be guilty of riding like a complete knob jockey (Thnak you Huttster )
