I have an MTB for off-roading but also like getting out on the road and having a blast. For this I still use the 1987 road Pug I used to ride to college on- in a less hilly area.

But after months of dithering, had a test ride today and reserved a Trek Lexa S. That 24 years' technology has made a big difference, not least the geometry- even though my existing road bike is also a laydees' model I never could reach the brakes easily when on the drops (always used the extensions!)- no trouble at all on the Trek.

As for my knee, which has early-onset arthritis, the compact chainring will be my friend.

Old Faithful, the 1987 Pug, will still be kept for winter hacking and flat rides. After that many years' service I cannot bear to let it go when there is nothing wrong with it.

Combined late birthday / early Ch******s pressie from Mr Hamster, who's not a cyclist but does understand.
