It didn't cost a lot, and arrived the next day, with instructions that, (as the dweeb on the other end of the line explained to me in a not entirely patronising way), were out of date.

Now it's installed it shuts itself off every hour or so, and has to be switched on again - cue computer going in to a sulk for two or three minutes - and running a full scan gives you a screen that offers choices (quarantine or destroy) that aren't followed by confirmation that it's been done. Every time it has its little hissy fit it asks me to upload data that will help the design of the next version. Sweet.

I'm also having to put up with little malware bits of crap inserting themselves between the search engine and the website - so if I were to click on 'Cycle Chat.......www.cyclechatwhatever' I'll wind up with Coupon Mountain or Britanniasearch or some such crap.

Should I just junk it and buy something else?

Sounds more like you have malware on your PC that is turning off your antivirus and popping up ads to you.

Have you used an anti-malware program to scan your pc with ?

I use this one --> http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html download the Free version and scan your PC, worth a try.

i had this last week. start in safe mode and run spybot from an estick if you can. it then gave me the registry address of the malware which i removed as the programmes dont seem to remove it. they say they have but on restart the whole problem started again. i was also cut off from the www and any updates which i addes to the estick from another comp. I also downloaded and run combofix which seemed to do quite a few removals of files too.
good luck

phew! chaps!

phil - I used superantispyware (the full version) and it discovered 1300 threats - which were removed. Then I rebooted, and had to go via safe mode and system restore to get back to Windows as it was before installing superantispyware, and then the ****ing Kaspersky thing blew up again, but, for the time being, I don't have the annoying interruptions. So, thankyou.

I've been running it for a couple of years and it's been better than any other I've tried (which is still well short of good). The only part that's turned off is the email spam filter, which is very good at stopping essential business mail and still lets most of the cr*p through. (Outlook's is much better)

It did take a while to get it behaving sensibly when I first got it though.

It does need to be told which specialist software is OK. It does block some web sites that are actually OK (not this one).

I'm using Kaspershy and have had major issues with it. There are two big problems. Firstly, if you had any other antivirus on your computer before you installed Kaspersky you'll have problems. You need to make sure you remove every trace of them, I think Kaspersky supply software to do this but you can get it elsewhere too.

Also, it can fight with Vista. I upgraded to vista Ultimate and it's working fine but with Home Basic/Premium you might have problems.

Once sorted it seems to work very well although you still have a few settings to alter to stop Kaspersky and Vista overlapping. I'm happy enough with it.
