I would really love to canoe or float a raft made from oil drums down the Ribble from as high up as possible to Preston docks. Having checked this with those who know I've found out that the Ribble has the reputation as one of Britain's worst canoeing rivers; firstly because of the lack of places near roads for putting in and taking out and secondly because landowners and anglers get very shirty if anybody dares to float down their stretch of river and the Ribble goes through prime huntin' shootin' and fishin' territory. Somehow finding this out has made me even more determined but nobody else seems to want to crew for me....
