Kent Border Charity Run

Basically me and my friend are attemtping a Kent Coast Bike ride for the Charity -East Anglia Childrens Hospice and just wondered if anyone could give us some good advice on long distance travelling and what equipment would be useful / good to have on us at all times as were trying to travel light.
