hi,

Not sure the sizing for my boy and both are mail order, so I'd appreciate your input on these two:

Carrera Zelos Jnr (41cm)
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...egoryId=165607&productId=939467&storeId=10001

And Ironman Koa 26
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...goryId=165607&productId=1283267&storeId=10001

The former is cheaper, heavier and I suspect smaller, the latter is more fitting for the inspiration I'm trying to pass on.

He's tried his friends boardman junior which doesn't seem to be on halfords anymore and that's too big.

Cheers
TP

The Carrera would be my choice. We had one as a test bike and it's OK with standard gear shifters at least. The top lever ones are a pain in comparison.

Alternatively I'd suggest a second-hand 650c wheel bike such as a Moda Major or my son had a Felt F95 Jr. The kit on both is better and they're lighter.

Decathlon have 45cm Triban 3 back in stock, a very well regarded bike and reduced from £300 to £150!
Decathlon suggest 4ft 8inch up for this size.

Watch out for small hands with shifters. My daughter (9yrs) can't used standard Shimano as her hands are too small, but she gets on fine with Microshift. It's as much a consideration at this age as frame size.

£150 is very cheap for the Triban. Would think the 45 / 48 would be fine for an 8-9 year old dependent on inside leg / height.

I've got the Carrera tdf Jnr for my son aged 8 it's on the "kids on bikes thread" somewhere. It's a 41 and is slightly too big for him as you can see from the pic. It's the reach to the bars and shifters mainly and safe use of the brakes even with the lever screwed in as far as possible on the adjuster. It fits my daughter aged 10 much better however (also in the pics). Funnily enough I'm considering the "zelos" myself for my daughter in the 41 size or another secondhand tdf Jnr.
