Anyone getting/thinking of Kinect for Xbox 360? After years of not getting a Wii, we've finally taken the plunge and decided to get Kinect this Christmas.

sorry meant to put this in Electric C.

Had a Wii and got rid, plus no room for Kinect. You see the adverts for it on the telly and the always have a massive front room.

Yes, I'm hoping that the 'massive minimalist room' is just 'marketing. Hopefully as in wiki it seems that the ranging limit means that you don't need a game-park of a room.
The Kinect sensor has a practical ranging limit of 1.2–3.5 metres (3.9–11 ft) distance. The sensor has an angular field of view of 57° horizontally and a 43° vertically, while the motorized pivot is capable of tilting the sensor as much as 27° either up or down. The microphone array features four microphone capsules,[sup][28][/sup] and operates with each channel processing 16-bit audio at a sampling rate of 16 kHz

I'm not getting a kinect, a mate is though. I think the biggest issue is not any of the practical issues but lack of support in games. I know a lot of pretty angry people that fable 3 isn't supported. It seems far from clear to me the eventual fate of kinect if they carry on like this.

Yes, I think the kinect is more messing about dancing and leaping over hurdles etc, than a Halo-ish precise sniping of an alien from the distant building etc ; though I guess this may come in time - probably the way things are heading.

We got a Wii for christmas from my parents last year. It's seen a bit of use but mainly gets used as a social gaming console, similar to how you'd play a board game (made sure we got a huge dining table for board games) with a couple of more blokey games such as ww2 fighter games for me to play against friends.

I'm not sure about the Xbox kinect or playstation move as i see them as an add on to a console where a couple of games might be made for it and thats it, with the wii the console has been made with movement in mind - but you can plug in a traditional controler if you like. The xbox and ps3 aren't like that and i think kinect and move will be like that buzz game for the ps2 that needed a special controller and was set to take the gaming world by storm

but didn't

It doesn't have to be though. I just think they've really messed this up. Natal was a great idea. It's such a soft launch. The alleged list of supported games for Move frankly looks better. It's a shame because some people have put a lot of work into a product that may well flop. It's just way too expensive for much of the so called casual game market with too few titles. They obviously want a cut of the casual games market but if Nintendo get lucky on the timings of the next launch cycle they are really going to get roasted over it. Harry Potter may be fun on Kinect.

I've had a look at a Harry P Kinect trailer, it seems that the onscreen character follows a predetermined course with the gamer shaking the wand at various foe. I wonder if one has freedom to roam, or for instance, do a 360 turn etc etc.
