The 'cyclist mows dow pedestrian' thread has got me thinking - does anyone here ever think they're "King of the Road"? In that I mean a lot of us always think we're right and are indignant at the perceived lack of ability of other road users - almost as if we are a super-breed of cyclists. If that sounds daft or arrogant, try reading that thread again in this context (here)..

Example:
I undertook a cyclist last week (not clear cut, he tried to overtake me (by RLJing when the lights were about to go green) and never got past my front wheel) the other day and I was indignant when the guy swore at me.

Probably was my fault on balance (I should have slowed right down, gone round his back wheel and overtook him) but I'm now used to being overly righteous and chastising others' silly acts on this forum that I felt that I somehow couldn't be wrong. Didn't help that the guy was an angry RLJing day-glo numpty without a helmet riding a rusting mtb.

I guess the moral of this post is that none of us are impervious to error, however impossible that may seem from reading eachother's posts. Just seems very dangerous to think otherwise on the roads, however subconsciously.

But cycling off after you knock down a ped is truly stupid.

Pedestrians are supposed to be kings of the road, surely?

As for the helmets, I mostly see RLJers with helmets, and fewer without. Maybe I should finally get around to doing some video counting of them?
