Don't you need Quicktime (or another .mov player)? It's a free download from Apple.

Search for and download VLC, this should load the software and codecs required for most video files.

Each machine you want to view it with will need this software
 
If you want to play it with Media Player then you will either need Apple's Quicktime software, which i hate because of the other stuff it forces onto you, or you can use 'quicktime alternative' which is just the codecs required to play them.

If Media Player is not required, then as stated, VLC will play pretty much anything.

Or you could convert the .mov file to .avi which should play happily on any machine.
A quick google threw up this page which might be worth a try? I must stress I haven't tried the program, but it looks like what you need.
