Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
There is a formula you can use to work out the number of fish your pond can sustain. You calculate the size of your pond, and works out the amount of fish in inches that your pond can accomodate to keep the pond and the fish happy and that will allow the fish to continue to grow. So if your pond can accomodate say 60 inches, then you can have any combinatiion fisn up to 60 inches. It is a rough guidline, and you can plus or minus if you have fish that are a bit longer.
We bought a number of large koi here to Wales with us from the Midlands and put them into a smaller pond than we had in the Midlands. However, the otters got to them and took them all. Some were around 20 inches. I am sure the calculation table can be found on the internet.
There was another pond on the property and Mr WD made it a lot bigger, but instead of putting Koi back into it, we opted for perch, roach, rudd, tench, crucian carp, and a few small common carp. We find it isnt worth buying expensive fish when otters, mink, herons all predate the pond. No point in buyimg fish to feed the wildlife.
