My daughter recently declined the offer of chamois creme believing that it is not suitable for females. She is a doctor so I did not press the point.

Views, anyone?

Did you ask her why?

Some creams burn and can cause yeast infection (male don't suffer because their parts don't provide the preferred condition for yeastie beasties to develop). However, I think there are so many different products out there it is worth trying. She might find something good for her.

If the problem is chaffing (caused by rubbing), the most important thing is saddle size and position (angle) and it is all down to personal choice.

The wrong saddle size and the "wrong" shorts rubbing against the skin is like sandpaper down there.

There're some product with antibacterial properties worth trying. As I said it is all down to personal choice. What works for one my not work for others. The best thing is try and try it.

It isn't something I've ever heard before. I've not had issues with chafing myself, so I've never used the stuff, but if I did I would apply it to the crease areas where my thighs meet my body, which is ordinary skin, and not to the more sensitive areas in the centre. I agree that you wouldn't want to put cream there - but equally, that area doesn't move much against my shorts, and so wouldn't get chafed. I have had discomfort in that area, but that is caused by pressure, not chafing, and cream wouldn't help.

I think I would be careful with Assos cream as there's something in that that gives it a certain 'zing'.

Obviously for blokes, smothering one's nuts in this stuff at 2am in the morning is the only attraction of doing long Audax rides, but . . .

Pretty much all the women I know who do longer Audaxes or TT/race (read: high-mileage ladies) use chamois cream and Assos for preference as it smells so nice. Some apply it to shorts pad and some direct and I go for both for long events
