Laptops and Windows 7

So it is better to go with a Celeron processor in the laptop with Windows 7 or go for a Core 2 Duo processor with Windows Vista ??

Core 2 Duo surely, just update it to 7.

Depends what you want it for... Vista seems to do better with battery life than 7 and definitely would with a celeron instead of a duo...

Saying that, I would get the duo and upgrade it too

Yeah Dell seem to do an offer where it's £15 to upgrade on the old Vista stock.

Either this or I will see what free laptops I can get with phone contract.

7 works fine on pretty much anything. I'd go with a C2D though, even one on older architecture/fab.

Picked up a new Acer 5532 with MD Athlon 64 TK-42/ 1.6GHz Processor (Not sure what it is but its got some good scores on passmark) with 3gb ram and Windows 7 for £275.
2 year warranty too.

If it's a dual core, then the only difference is really the processor cache size, they are fundamentally the same CPU.

You won't notice this on general Windows applications (browsing, mail, office) only for number crunching.

Oh great it's come pre-loaded with loads of stuff, Norton, Office free 60 day trial, Mcafee Free Trial.
Desktop has about a dozen icons on it !

Looks like I'm gonna have a busy night.

Bonus is it comes with a different graphics card not the one it says.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the Ask Toolbar ?

I have tried through Control panel and Uninstall and via CC Cleaner but it keeps saying close Internet Explorer
