The lower range stuff by Briggs is woeful.

The higher range stuff is better, but by then youre into Honda price territory which makes it not worth considering.

Well, write it down boy ......
For a pretty safe bet, go on Facebook Marketplace, search for a Honda Izy and I'm sure there will be one on there for less than £100. There are several near me for less than that. Have a look at it, prod all round the deck especially at the front and near the discharge chute. If it's sound, pay what the seller will take, get it home and then underseal the deck properly. Then repeat every year.

Today I had a demo on a new lawnmower

Decided to trade two of my lawnmowers for a commercial grade zero turn unit. Our lawns aren't the best quality, I needed something with a fair bit of power.

This unit powered through the long stuff and scraggly patched we have.

Also having one has freed a bit of space

In the market for a lawnmower , we have a large lawn front and back , so a an electric plug in is not on my list . Looking for either a petrol or possibly a rechargeable one , do want stripes so needs the rear roller ! What’s your recommendations, currently using a clapped out Webb which to be fair starts every time !
if it starts every time, why not just mend the 'clapped out' parts? (or ask Drago to mend it for you)

It’s still going , we ended up buying another second ATCO lawnmower and then buying some other bits to fix that up . So we have quite a nice atco balmoral 17” cyclinder .
