Walking the dog, returned home and passed one of my neighbours running an extension lead to his car on the driveway. Got chatting, and asked what he was doing - he's a workie, has to leave the house at 0530hrs. Rather than de-ice the car by hand. He has a small greenhouse heater clipped to the dog guard behind the back seat. He plugs it in to an extension lead, that goes to a socket with a timer in his porch. The timer comes on at 0500hrs, and he reckons he unplugs the lead and drives straight off in a frost free car. Clever, very clever, thought I.

So glad I don't have to think that way anymore.
I just stay in bed until it looks OK to get up.
So much easier.:okay:

Back in the 70's my dad had some sort of flat paraffin heater he put under the car...

This was after I had put the parking lights on the car before going to bed.... Yep, it was my job to wind down the driver windows and hook the parking light on.

Mines lives in a garage as well, but if it was outside I would just use my smart watch to turn it on. Simple really.

Mine stays in a nice warm garage, I do remember a long time ago having a VW that had a heater with a timer on.

I would love to get ours in the garage but its full of bloody bikes

I must admit it's this time of year i enjoy owning a Ford with heated fr & rr windscreens at the press of a button if not cold enough to have activated automatically

What that the olde Eiberspacher heater?

Was thinking about fitting one of these to my VW van, but to be honest I don't think it would get used enough to justify the cost.

I have thought about the electric heater idea though, since the van needs to be plugged in now and then to charge the leisure battery.

I suppose that with plug in charged electric cars then cockpit preheating could be a very simple option. I assume either this already happens or it has been patented. If not I have just chucked away a load of royalties by stating the idea publically.

I do believe these new electric cars have such a timer option built in, TVC. So you're okay, you've not lost a fortune.
