Why do we ride? How do we ride further - faster? These are oft asked questions that remind me of a quote attributed to Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong when asked what jazz is and goes something like - if you have to ask you will never know. Strava and Garmin etc have added something that may not appeal to all and it is certainly not a prerequisite to log an activity that may be an attempt to get away from logging on

That's exactly what I asked our intrepid leader @Fubar on the CC Ecosse tour last year, riding to Port Charlotte on Islay while being battered by the elements. I may have added a wee swearword or two to the sentence
