Light confusion

On the way home tonight, I spotted a red light in the distance (about 20-30 feet away) and eased off a little...Then I realised that it wasn't a red light at all, but a red L.E.D on the front of a sign right next to me.

it was really bright and confused me for a second.

I have the video of it but its a little jumpy (was on the "canyon" that is Brookmill road in Deptford), but even on the vid it can be a little deceptive.

Has anyone else ever had light confusion, there are so many lights about, not to mention all the Zenon lights that look blue until they warm up (I often think a police car is coming when they flick on behind me)

It seems more than a little daft putting a bright L.E.D on a dark road, at traffic light height, facing oncoming traffic...I wonder if the D.O.T are even aware that these signs have red L.E.D's on them.

one like,

this

I think it was on the front of a "Slow Down" sign, and the muvi cam makes the road look far lighter than it is...its a pretty dark section.

I thought it was a crossing or something for a second or two

Oh i see, thats the small light emitted from speed sensors that either say your speed or tell you that it's a 30 zone.

them's rather mean deserted looking streets, I think I'd get frightened without at least three cars in close attendance
