Can anyone recommend a decent light set for an event like the above.

Ideal budget would be the £50-60 mark but could go to about £70-£100 if I really have to.

Currently I do not own lights as I have never actually cycled in the dusk let alone the dark so I am a bit of a numpty as regards what to go for. I can google lights and come up with a vast array but to be truthful lumens, candle power etc and all that malarky means little to me sadly.

I do not commute and the vast majority of my riding is in a group but I would like to be able to see and just as importantly be seen when the situation calls for it albeit it will be infrequently.

Has anyone got any recommendations I have Evans and Cycle surgery near my work and there is always wiggle or the CTC shop.

Many thanks for your assistance.

The light of choice for a lot of FNRttC'ers is the Hope Vision 1.
Takes 4 AA batteries, so you can take spares or get from shop/garage if run out of juice.

With good rechargeables the HV1 will last through the night (8 hours plus on level 2, 6 hours on level 3)

Cost about £70 from the usual online stores.

Also, if you are in the CTC there's the 10% off business at Evans etc...just don't get a blue one - that's a naff colour! ;)

Thanks I think there appears to be a general consensus already however what about rear lights ?
I had a look at the Hope ones on Wiggle and adding on a rear would put me well over budget

I don't think you need a powerful rear light for something like the FNRttC?

For a good, cheap, very bright rear light, have a look at the Smart Lunar 2 x 0.5W. Currently only £12.78 at Ribble.

An alternative option is the RSP astrum, also 2x0.5 watts, horizontal orientation though, no disco or pulse mode, but an alternating flash mode. It also has one LED with a clear spot lense and the other with a horizontal diffuser lense. Google shows similar price point ~£12.

FWIW I have one of each (Smart Lunar 2 on seat stay and RSP Astrum on seat post on the road bike.)
