Hello all,

Does anyone know how much data (approx) listening to an Internet radio station for an hour would use say at 128k data rate ? Just wondered as I intend to use my phone as an in car Internet radio system. Anyone else use theres for Internet radio whilst on the move? Any good?

No idea but you could use 3g watchdog & test for a while.

tune-in radio & lastfm are 2 apps I use on Android.

Simple arithmetic....

128k bits / second

divide by 8 = bytes per second = 16K

times 3600 = bytes per hour = approx 58 megabytes.

times 24 = bytes per day = approx 1.4 gigabytes.

So it's practical for occasional use, but gets expensive unless you have a large data allowance.

Of course, when at a fixed location such as home or office, then you should use a wi-fi connection to a local network to avoid data charges.

Thanks for the info,I am considering changing my old 3 pay as you go to a newer one where by they give you unlimited data. Not sure if I'll really need this as some of my use will be from my workshop or living room which will be covered by my WIFI. I'll give it a whirl for a month and see if I need to change my contract.

Thanks again .
