especially those with an extra long shackle.

It is best to have a snug fit to prevent someone breaking the lock by leverage.

No easy way to achieve this all the time, unless you always lock the bike to the same object.

You could buy an extra long D lock, but they are really aimed at locking two bikes, either side of a post.

The best form of security is to deny theft opportunity.

Sadly, for a lot of us that restricts the use to which we can put our bikes.

True but with the Keeper Std (8") if I put the u-lock around the seat post, barely 2" left. Put it around one of the seat stays, 3.5". Making it very difficult to encompass any kind of vertical without using a cable, which then kind of defeats the security of the u-lock. Guessing this varies depending on bike style. So I'm thinking one of the other Kryptonite options like the Keeper 12 LS (10") or Kryptolok LS (11.5"). At least then I could encompass the seat post as well as the vertical object.
