Lon Las Cymru (kind of). Done.

Just back from my five day cycle tour along most of Lon Las Cymru. It was a great week for the weather (if a bit hot sometimes) and a lovely route through some beautiful countryside. Bike worked well, camp kit worked well, legs...worked. Some big ascents, some fantastic descents, some annoying bumpy bits and some really crap parts as well. Highly recommended none the less. Thanks for all the tips elsewhere on CC before the trip.

Day 1 Chepstow to Llanthony. 38 miles.
Camped in farmers field at Llanthony Priory.

Day 2 Llanthony to Llangurig. 58 miles.
Stayed at B&B (didn't want to go any further and there was just no where to camp - honest)

Day 3 Llangurig to Nr Harlech. 58 Miles.
Lovely campsite on coast.

Day 4 & 5 I left Lon Las Cymru and turned east heading for some friends and a weekend booze up get together.

Day 4. Harlech to Lake Bala. 43 miles.
Nice campsite on lakeside.

Day 5. Lake Bala to Hengoed. 38 miles.
The End.

That looks just brilliant, thanks for the inspiration !

I'm hoping to undertake my first attempt at cycle touring at the end of October. It will be in Wales, possibly to include the Lon Cambria, but who knows, I have a natural aversion to planning constraints and will see where the wind blows me ! [ I wish ].

BTW, what tent is that ?

Cheers,

Don.

Do you mean Llangurig? Out of interest (local connections see, my late F-I-L is buried in Llangurig churchyard) which b&b did you stay in?

Nice pics and boy were you blessed with the weather. Never complain of being hot in Wales; that's a miracle.[/quote]

No problem.

The tent is a Vango Force Ten Helium 200. Like this one but a slightly older model. RRP = £250.00 but can be got for around £180.00 if you shop around. Nice tent for solo camping and can be used for a cozy twosome if needed.

I guess anyone who's ridden Gospel Pass remembers that cattle grid. I was coming up in a shower, the guard was wet and slippery and it didn't register that the guard actually slopes uphill. I got in the middle of it and got bogged down and just splattered myself on the guard. Hurt for a few days too! Lovely ride though and the view out over Hay and the Wye Valley is unforgettable.
