Well todays commute (1st this year) reminded me exactly why I love cycling in London: the vibrancy, the atmosphere, the buzz, etc. Hopefully the 'Velon' (public cycle scheme) will act as a further springboard; although one can see that the number of cyclists is increasing at a rate that even the local councils would be hard placed to ruin.
Of course, the traffic was at parts annoying: the usual mindless pushing and shoving in order to jostle a better place; where etiquette, consideration, and restraint are thrown away by blocking others and undertaking silly manoeuvres in order to 'advance' 2 meters in a jam. Although as is the norm on a bike, I could fit in-between gaps of stationary vehicles, accelerate quicker, and maintain a faster average speed on my 3 speed Brompton than most drivers could in their BMWs, Mercs, and Audis.
There was a real buzz around Charing Cross -> Whitehall, with several cyclists (as in about 12+) in close proximity demonstrating exactly why London should be car-free. And on a bike one can, even in rush-hour, still afford enough time to bask in the splendour of the magnificent surroundings that make up our nations capital.
In summary: it was my first cycle-commute of the year, and I loved it!
