Can anyone help?

I’m looking to cycle from London to Cambridge next weekend. Leaving from SE London.

Does anyone have any routes planned already – ideally I’d like a step by step guide of the major points – i.e. head from Blackheath to Lewisham rather than a 50 page turn by turn device.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Sorry. I'm afraid I can't actually help, not knowing that part of the world much...

I'm sure someone sensible will be along soon...

These sort of questions come up frequently. The best advice is to look at a good road map and choose a reasonably direct route on minor roads and be prepared to adjust it en route. The CTC may have routes on theeir site if you're a member.

If you are coming from Blackheath, I'd suggest using the Greenwich foot tunnel and then following the Regents Canal/ Lea Valley canal and river as far as Epping Forest. It's a pleasant way of navigating through the grottier parts of Hackney, Dalston Stoke N etc

I think HaloJ did a similar route a few weekends ago. Might be worth PM'ing her as am sure it was plotted on the Garmin...

[sup]We cycled that route a few years back on behalf of the WWF
The start point was Picketts Lock (which is where the M11 and the North Circular meet)
We cycled from Greenwich, through the foot tunnel, up the Lee Valley cycle route to Pickets Lock (takes about 2 hours), from there we followed the WWF route card which was mostly on roads, but I have also followed up the Lea Navigation all the way to Hartford - a very plesant 25 mile towpath cycle as long as you are not in a hurry

Wouldn't put any money on it.;)

Cycle out to Hertford along the canal. Come off the path at Ware (just before Hertford) head up the high street and carry on toward Thundridge. It is marked as the A10 but in reality it is a very quiet road as there is a dual carriageway that takes the main traffic. Carry on to Puckeridge, down the high street, to the end turn right and foolow that road straight down.

Just leaves the traffic madhouse that is the edge of Cambridge to negotiate! The route suggested is a nice one, a little undulating round Thundridge and Puckeridge, but otherwise nice and easy. Give it a day and enjoy....
