just a little tip for anyone looking for a cheap bike on a tight budget, maybe a cheap commuter bike that you don't need to worry about leaving in the street, or just a knock about bike for the kids...

take a look at your local "tip", or recycling centre as they like to call them these days.

as an example, i picked this bike up for my daughter today. it's a Raleigh Diva, with front suspension fork. the current model is selling for over £160 so I'm guessing this was a similar price when new. The rear Derailleur had been twisted out of shape (turned out it was just the hanger), the chain guard thing is split and there are a few scratches on the rear chain-stay.
other than that it's like new !!!!

Guess how much i paid ??

it was like an aladdin's cave down there with two really old road bikes, a bike that would have suited the wife and another for my eldest daughter, Had they needed them.

it's worth taking a look, even if you just want spare parts !!!

I picked my new shopping bike out of a skip last month. A set of brake pads on the front, some oil on the chain, some black tape to repair the saddle and straightened the bent rear mudguard and it was good to go and rides very nicely and has a good sturdy rack. I would have preferred a gents frame but beggers can't be chosers!
