PLanet X used to do a flatbar carbon bike for a grand, would be comfy. Can't see on their site anymore but might be worth a buzz if of interest

When I had my Planet X SL Carbon I met a guy on a ride with the exact same spec but flat bars it looked brilliant, I don't think you will miss the suspension on the road.

cheers dirtydirtyleeds, heard the sirrus range mentioned a lot, would i miss the front suss that i currently enjoy if i did a 50 miler?

glory horn....6-2 iirc

50 milers if on the road will be fine without suspension.

Sirrus with discs doesn't have carbon forks, see how it rides in terms of comfort and buzz

I ride mine on rough cycle paths and tow paths and it is fine

Do you have the one with the discs? Non disc version does have carbon forks (or used to). If I was spending £750 on a flat bar (or indeed a road bike), I'd expect carbon forks

Ok I like the moda bike, the Immer at £1100 with disc brakes looks good and weighs in at 9Kg, the gear system is microshift which I've never heard of but does anyone have any experience of these components? The bike spec is as follows; please comment as I am no expert.

Frame: LDA Triple Butted 7005 Aluminium
Fork: LDC High Modulus Carbon
Rear Deraileur: Microshift Urban 10 Speed
Shifters: Microshift Urban Triggers
Brakes: Sram BB7 Road Disc / Sram Speed Dial Levers
Chainset: Barelli Alloy 50/34
Wheelset: American Classic Victory
Tyres: Kenda Kwick Roller 700 x 28c
Saddle: Barelli Cr-Mo Rail
Seatpost: Barelli Alloy
Handlebars: Barelli Alloy 31.8mm
Stem: Barelli Alloy 100mm
Headset: Sealed Cartridge
Weight:
21.3 lbs / 8.98 kg

to me it looks like the best flat bar roadie on the market with that spec - if i'm correct microshift is made by sram, and as its trigger shifters they should be really quick and smooth changes....

buy it, you won't be disappointed - especially with that wheelset as standard

If you fancy a KTM ultra my Brother has just taken over MTB Direct and has got me an Ultra Sport (with rigid forks)
Cant tell you how it rides as my ruptured achilles has healed enough to ride it yet...
